VOLUME 01: MAY 2001

100% APR
by Davina Danian

That girl with the nice rhythm,
that guy with those eyes,
the woman at CVS,
a model on tv,
all those nice things,
staring back at me.
Could I borrow your smile
to capture that beautiful man
sitting next to the aisle?
Can I borrow your ability, your pace?
So I can prove to my boss
that I can run this race.
Can I borrow your nervous system?
Just for a minute please.
All I need
is one moment of ease.
Can I borrow your feet,
so mine can rest?
Can I borrow your mind,
just for this test?
Hey big macho man,
could ya lend me your muscles?
So I can teach that guy a lesson,
who didn’t know with whom
he was messin’.
Miss Elizabeth Bishop,
can I borrow your poem?
The placement of words
like only you know ‘em.
Let me borrow
that confidence
that style
just for a while.
