My work has always involved the figure, usually
in a narrative context. This is partly because the human form
is challenging to work with and every nuance is expressive,
but mostly because I am interested in people and the way they
relate to each other and society. It is what lies beneath
the surface, the hidden aspects of our culture that fascinate
me.
My style is fairly traditional, in reference to draftsmanship,
however, the color and content is often slightly askew.
On the surface my figures appear to be attractive, well
dressed, people — our idealized American culture.
Underneath, however, there is often a feeling that something
is not quite right — a recognition of the precarious
balance of contemporary society.
